When to Service Your Air Conditioner

Do you know what’s frustrating? And sweaty and uncomfortable?

Having your air conditioning go kaput at the height of summer. And of course, that’s always when it happens.

Unless you stay on top of things. You can keep your air conditioner running smoothly through the hottest heat waves by making sure your system gets serviced while problems are small. Here’s what to watch for!

Loud Noises

Your AC will make soft humming sounds and you might hear air blowing around, but that’s about it. If your AC is buzzing, banging, or otherwise making a racket, it’s time for a service visit.

Low Air Flow

This one’s hard to notice unless you’re paying close attention. The air might be coming out cold, but there may not be much of it. Low airflow can indicate a few problems, so it’s best to call an experienced technician to investigate the issue.

Stinky Smells

The air coming out of a clean, well-maintained air condition system shouldn’t smell bad. If it smells like mold or mildew, that’s a sure sign that your system is in need of a good cleaning. A burning smell means your system needs immediate servicing before the problem gets worse.

Air Conditioner Runs Frequently

Your AC will kick on and off as needed to maintain your home at the temperature set at the thermostat. However, it should come on, cool your home and then stay off for a while. If it keeps going on and off, a situation known as short cycling, something is probably wrong.

Expert Help With Your Air Conditioner

Even if you aren’t noticing any of these specific issues, seasonal maintenance is a must for lengthening the life of your system. Plus, your system will run more efficiently and help keep your energy bills lower.

So make sure to call in professionals like those at Total Home Services of Utah at least once a year to make sure your system stays in tip-top shape!
